What makes it different

Exact for your location

Calculates sunrise from your precise coordinates, so the window is right for where you actually are — not an approximation for a nearby city.

Home-screen widget

Today's Brahma Muhurta window sits quietly on your home screen. Glance and go — no need to open the app.

Widget refresh

On Android, the widget refreshes hourly if you grant background location — useful if you travel frequently. Without it, and on iOS, the widget refreshes daily at midnight, always correct for the coming day.

Frequently asked questions

What is Brahma Muhurta?

Brahma Muhurta is the sacred time window beginning roughly 1 hour 36 minutes before sunrise and lasting about 48 minutes. Classical Vedic texts describe it as the most auspicious time for meditation, study, and spiritual practice — the mind is naturally calm, and sattva (clarity) is said to be at its peak.

Why does the time change every day?

Because it's tied to sunrise, which shifts slightly each day with the earth's orbit and your latitude. SereneRise recalculates automatically — you never need to look it up.

Does the app need internet?

No. Once installed, all calculations happen on your device. The app works entirely offline.

Why does it need location permission?

Sunrise times depend on your latitude and longitude to calculate the correct Brahma Muhurta window. On Android, location permission is needed for the widget to work accurately. On iOS, location permission is optional — if you prefer not to grant it, you can enter your city manually and the app will calculate accurate times from that. Either way, your location is never transmitted or stored on a server. See the privacy policy for details.

The widget isn't updating. What should I do?

Android: If you have granted background location, the widget refreshes hourly — if it stops, open the app once to force an update, and check that battery optimization isn't restricting SereneRise. If you haven't granted background location, the widget refreshes daily at midnight, which is the expected behaviour.

iOS: The widget refreshes once daily at midnight. If it appears stale, open the app once to trigger a manual refresh.

Does it work in the Southern Hemisphere?

Yes. The sunrise calculation is purely astronomical and works correctly anywhere on Earth, including high latitudes where sunrise times shift dramatically through the year.

What is the difference between the Android and iOS versions?

The core experience is the same on both platforms. Both versions update your location automatically when you move more than 50km — on Android this happens in the background (if background location is granted), on iOS it happens the next time you open the app. The widget refresh also differs: on Android with background location granted the widget refreshes hourly; without it on Android, or on iOS, it refreshes once daily at midnight.
